You Don’t Understand the Bible Because you are Christian by Richard Gist Ch 5
I can’t do justice to this chapter with a summary. You need to read it for yourself. Yes, it makes the point that we really need to learn Hebrew, and apparently, the geography of the Near East to completely understand the story of Esau, Jacob, Leah, and Rachel.
He also makes the point which I have said over and over and over and over and over and over (you get the point) that there is humor in the Hebrew Scriptures and, IMO, we read them so sanctimoniously that we miss it.
I think that is our loss and a sad commentary at how dried up and shriveled we may have become since the days when the Jews would have rolled in the aisles when the story of Jacob and Esau was told. I fear they don’t get the humor anymore now either.
