Reflection on a Saying of a Desert Christian: anonymous

“Said a wise man in our times: “Most people fear the loss of a loved one because, not attending to their own salvation, they have time to waste thinking about the salvation of others.”

It is easy to dismiss this Saying because it reads like an uncomfortable either/or. However, it reads to me as a both/and. Yes, we might fear the loss of a loved one if the one we love doesn’t know Jesus. Yes, we do not pursue holiness in our own personal lives, we are basically wasting our lives because there is nothing more important than loving and enjoying God. But I believe that we can work toward personal holiness and love our loved ones into the Kingdom.
