Reflection on a Saying of a Desert Christian: anonymous

“The eyes of the pig,” says one Father, “are so situated that they look only at the ground. The man who has been seized by the desire for foods suffers from the same thing; he looks down all the time and is not capable of anything lofty.”

Well, nothing like comparing human beings to pigs.  But, then, I guess we have all done it sometime or the other.  Must admit, I did not know pigs eyes were fixed in their heads like that, but then I know nothing at all about pigs as I have never met any personally.

Gluttony is certainly a problem some people have.  If one rates the love of food above the love of God, it is idol worship.  Anytime we love something more than God, we worship a false god. Anytime we love something more than God, we are never going to grow in our spiritual lives.
